Hello all, this is a letter that I have sent to all those that are on my e-mail list, all those at my church, and most of all everyone listed on www.Hucksarmy.com. It is longer then my usual posts but packed with good Fred stuff!
As always thanks for being involved, and many blessings, Shane
"The Hunt For Red November"
I’m writing this to give Christians, and all of you some information I believe is of the utmost importance both for this election process, and for our day-to-day living in our country. I am an evangelical Christian and I am totally supporting Fred Thompson, and have supported him long before he even thought about even starting his exploratory committee. See I am originally from Virginia and knew my Tennessee country gentlemen friend long ago. I chose him first because he is a Christian and he believes in all the Christian values. He is against abortion, he believes in traditional biblical marriage, is against embryonic stem cell research, and totally supports all life from conception to natural death. Which is one of the reasons why he has received the National Right to Life (& S. Carolina’s) endorsement. But what really got me hooked on Fred Thompson was his position on Federalism. See I like studying history, especially biblical history and the Christian heritage of this nation. I have a belief that the constitution of this nation is God’s constitution. Now I will explain that in a minute. See “We The People” should be following the constitution for it’s original meanings as written by the founding fathers. I call this “The Doctrine of Original Intent”. Federalism is a major part of that doctrine. Fred Thompson wants to lead us at the federal level the way the founding fathers were convicted in their hearts that the government should be run. See most of the founding fathers were Christian, and based the constitution on biblical principles. Even those that weren’t believers believed this should be done for the good of the land. Not one point in the constitution has or will ever change or supersede any biblical point. The founding fathers knew that the bible and its principles were primary (a prerequisite if you will), and they wrote the constitution to essentially cover areas, pertaining to government, where the bible was silent. An example is murder vs. speeding laws. Everyone knew that murder was wrong and they knew that from the bible, “thou shalt not kill”, yet it left laws like speeding in the hands of the leaders. I should note that even though murder is against Gods law and the 14th amendment of the constitution, this same constitution leaves the power in the states on how to address murder. The first ten amendments to the constitution were written to affirm all biblical rights, to make sure that they were never taken away from any person within the United States. Now I know what most people say, “How can we know what the founding fathers meant”. Well we know it because we have it all recorded in the library of congress. See every word of every house and senate session is required to be recorded, word for word. Everything of every debate, every discussion, every filibuster, and yes even Harry Reid trying (and failing) to put down Rush Limbaugh. The recording of government all started when the founding fathers were discussing, debating, and writing the constitution. Plus, after the constitution was given to the people to read they had lots of questions and statements of their own. The founding fathers wrote letters to the people in each of the new 13 States answering their questions and explaining the meaning of constitution. These letters are also housed in the library of congress. We know what the founding fathers meant! All of it is there for you to read. There is a Christian brother out there who gets into this way more then I do, it’s his life and ministry. His name is Dr David Barton. On his web site (www.wallbuilders.com) you will find statements of fact, with their sources printed, of letters, statements, and general information of the strong Christian heritage of this nation and original meanings of all the parts of our constitution. There is a video of him having a discussion with Kenneth Copeland about the constitutions Christian heritage I would love for you to watch. (www.bvov.tv/asx/bvov/021103h.asx). On it he talks about everything I have and will mention here, but in much greater detail. This video only scratches the surface, there are a lot more.
I started a blog a while back in response to the E-mail that Dr. James Dobson wrote about Fred Thompson. In that note he said (rather harshly) that he could not support Fred Thompson because he was not for a national amendment for banning abortion or defining marriage. I stood in awe. How can such a strong Christian be that against another Christian with such strong convictions? I felt he was missing the point of Federalism in God’s constitution and how important it is as a Christian to support the constitution even at times like this. My blog is called (Fred Thompson and “The Doctrine of Original Intent”). (www.federalistfred.blogspot.com). On it you can read all my responses to Dr Dobson and even a personal letter I wrote him, which he did respond to. It wasn’t a chain letter either, he addressed each point line by line that I had made. He and his ministry are honorable and highly favored by God. The points that I made was that even though we think it is a good idea to make something law, the constitution does not always allow it, and it is for very good reason. If we choose to federalize marriage, what’s going to stop someone else from federalizing something we don’t agree with? It would open the floodgates (which some say are all ready open) and start a chain reaction that will unravel the fabric of the constitution forever. Then this great nation will cease to exist, and all hope of evangelizing the world is lost. When you study the history of the church through the ages you would see that it was all pointing to the birth of this nation. We are the first nation in history that has the means and the heart to take the gospel to all the corners of the earth. Without the constitution all hope of that is lost. The psalms tell us that if the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do. At its heart the constitution did not want a dictatorship within this nation either in person or in government. No man will have authority over another unless that man gives him that authority. Which is why we hold elections. The founding father’s knew this from Exodus 18:21 “Choose out from among you your leader’s”, and this was at all levels of government. As a check and balance it was written into the constitution that the power be given to the states. Based on free markets, each state can make it’s owns law’s based on it’s specific needs. It end’s up being a competition among the states to see who can be the strongest and who can attract more people and businesses to it’s state. Laws made at the federal level have no checks and balances. They are dictatorship through regulation! What everyone seems to forget is that God is not a dictator nor forces us to obey Him. He quotes His law, and then lets us choose for our selves what we do. His love gives us this freedom, and he wanted it so for this nation. Now the constitution does give the federal government certain powers, and lists them line-by-line. Anything not on that list the federal government is not suppose to get involved in. I personally would love to see a law nationally banning flag burning, which I believe is detestable or an outlawing of smoking which I think is bad for everyone’s health. But as a navy sailor I must defend the right of that individual to burn that flag or smoke that cigarette, to my death, now that is constitution! With my convictions to follow God’s constitution, I would not want it any other way. We as Christians must choose to trust in God’s will even though we may not understand it, or like it. His way are not our ways!
Now to explain fully what I mean by God’s constitution. For a group of rag tag men, of just 13 colonies where most people still felt loyal to the king, to take on and win against the worlds strongest nation, based solely on their hearts conviction that the freedoms given to them by God were being taken away, had to be the work of God. When the war was over and they started to form this nation, they choose to return to those same God fearing principles. I’ve already explained some of those principles that they included in the constitution, but here are some others. The separation of powers both in the four branches of government (yes I said four), and federal vs. states authorities was brought about due to the notion that man’s heart is deceitful found in Jeremiah 17. No one man, or group should have too much power. Our branches of government are based on Isaiah 33:22, where the Lord is described as judge, lawgiver, and king keeping in mind however, Jeremiah 17 where one earthly man should not hold all that power. The tax exemption status that our churches enjoy is found in Ezra 7:24. Article III of the constitution is found almost word for word in Deuteronomy 17:6. Article II was taken from Ezekiel 18:20. See just like the Bible was inspired by God and written by man so was the constitution. Now don’t get me wrong the constitution is not cannon nor do I place it as high as the bible. However, you can see why I call it, God’s constitution.
Now I know I have been talking about the founding fathers a lot. I also know that many African Americans do not feel that the founding fathers are their founding fathers. I would encourage you to revisit that idea. The founding fathers knew that all men are created equal and given the same inalienable rights by God. Like I said they wrote this into the first ten amendments. And if you look up those documents in the library of congress of the constitutional debates you will find that most of the debaters wanted to abolish slavery right then. “Then why did some of the founding fathers like George Washington still have slaves” you ask. In some states it was illegal to set slaves free. George Washington wrote many times how he longed to set them free. As far as the constitution goes, there were many other issues in some of the southern states that made abolishing slavery very difficult, and some of those states were so against it that they were threatening not to be part of the union. So a compromise was made. Those states would have twenty years to change the things that needed to be changed so slavery could be done away with. When it dragged on and on, brave God-fearing men like Abe Lincoln finally took a stand based on the principles first laid out close to100 years before that. This is where the Republican Party first started. See, God will, and has seen to it that this nation shall long endure.
Fred Thompson shares those same convictions and has been the same person today as he has been all his life and has led and served all that time. He stands on those convictions even when he is not in the majority or even, like the flag burning, when he doesn’t like the situation. He once while in a senate was the only nae vote, 99-1, taking a stance because of federalism. He even imposed term limits on himself because of those convictions. See Fred Thompson believes in Christian values, he stands for strong conservative principles, and he believes in governing the way our founding fathers intended. This is why I support Fred Thompson positions; they are the most American, the most constitutional, and the most Christian. Just last week in public he answered a question with this response “Christ didn’t tell us to go to the government and pass a bill to get some of these social problems dealt with. He told us to do it”. Sounds like to me he is not ashamed of the gospel. I encourage you to also stand up for Fred Thompson.
Now most everyone knows about the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of government. The fourth is “We The People”. Although the people are not in charge, they do hold the power. The bible would tell us to be involved in our government. Christians should be the one’s on the front lines, and voting is only the tip of the iceberg. We must learn about the candidates of all offices federal, state, and local. Then being in contact with them after they are in office is vital to this nation success. Roman’s 13 says that all civil authority is ordained by God. Which brings to light the fact that Timothy tells us to pray for the kings and leaders who have authority over you. Being involved will save this nation. Most of the issues this nation faces are because the government runs free and “We The People” run silent. An example is the issue of gay marriage. The amount of people who want it is less then 20%. The reason it’s even an issue at all is because the 20% are making a bigger noise then the other 80.
As for Mike Huckabee, he was my number two candidate. But I have started to question his integrity. I wrote a letter to Mike Huckabee, you can read it on my blog. Unlike Dr Dobson I have received no response. In talking to Tim Russert shortly after starting his presidential run he said, “I think you got to be very careful. I, I wouldn’t propose any new taxes. I wouldn’t support any. But if we’re in a situation where we are in a different level of war, where there is no other option, I think that it’s a very dangerous position to make pledges that are outside the most important pledge you make, and that is the oath you take to uphold the Constitution and protect the people of the United States”. Then in 33 days he signed the pledge. He later said “I am the first governor in 160 years to lower taxes in my state”. He was not, Bill Clinton the governor just before him signed an income-tax reduction in 1991. This goes beyond exaggeration and into the realm of outright falsehood. He talks about lowering taxes 94 times but does not talk about the 21 tax increases, which far outweighed the cuts, which raised taxes for a net 500 million dollar increase. How can someone sign a pledge not to raise taxes when that is just what he did in his state? But the event that really turned me off was the video he pulled in NH. I can understand him making the video and wanting to get it out. I have been attacked for my stances and I many times wanted to fight back and sometimes I did. But to set up a news conference just to tell the world I’m not going to show the video (most didn’t even know he had made)(and pulled to late for some stations which showed it anyway), then to show it to the media and let them film it (there are phone video copies on you tube), then give a clean copy to Fox News (where they told people they were going to show it 3 minutes before they did, so they could tape it)(which then made it onto you tube as well), was just totally disheartening. Mathew 6 says to not display your righteous deeds before man; you will receive no reward from heaven. Personally I think however, this is the reason he wanted to pull the ad. The video quotes “Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts includes no executions.” That's true, but the reason is that Massachusetts doesn't have a death penalty. Furthermore, Romney tried and failed to get the death penalty reinstated. He then ended the ad with “If a man’s dishonest to obtain a job, he’ll be dishonest on the job.” Sounds like to me he made his own point. Then in the end he was able to get the ad out anyway and not even pay for it. The final straw is all the mis-facts, part of which I list here on (www.factcheck.org). I can know longer in good conscience support him in anyway!
Finally I encourage you to watch Fred Thompson speaking to the Iowa Voters. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VblJq4j0_SE) It is Fred in a 17-minute nutshell. Even though he addresses Iowa his message rings true for all American’s. Let him tell you in his own words his beliefs and plans for the future. You can also visit (http://www.fred08.com) to read in detail all his policy proposals.
I cannot thank you enough for being involved. I wish, hope, and pray that you, your family, and your friends receive the many blessings God wishes to give everyone. Shane (Hangmann747)
